There are many verses in the Bible that has inspired me and literarily launched me into my destiny in life. One of those verses is found in the book of Psalms 118:24. It simply says “this is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” What makes that verse of the Bible so special is its emphasis on today. One of the greatest gifts that God has given to everyone is the gift of “today.” I strongly believe that anyone can change their tomorrow by doing something today! The Bible clearly suggests that we should rejoice and be glad this day. Regardless of what the devil may be trying to do, you should choose to rejoice and be glad today. In short, today is your gift from God almighty but what you do with it is your choice.
Let me suggest that you learn to maximize the moment and make something out of today. For example, we are now in the basketball session. You may have noticed how some of the NBA teams are playing very hard to win the championship. But have you also noticed that the Coach would often first call the play before the Athletes played the game? Likewise, you and I should wake up everyday to call our day game before we play. I don’t know about you, when I woke up this morning, I looked myself in the mirror and told myself that I am going to have a great day. My spirit, soul and body are all on the same page to change my tomorrow by doing something today. How about you? Have you made up your mind to have a good day? You certainly deserve it.
Too many people are not able to enjoy their today because they are living in their yesterday. Too many people are living a miserable life today because of what happened yesterday. The reality is that you cannot spend a lifetime crying over spilled milk. Yesterday is gone and you can never have it back. Whatever may have happened in your life yesterday, put it under the blood of Jesus. It’s over with. So move on because if you are not careful, the thief of yesterday can steal your joy today. And if he cannot steal your today through your yesterday, he will try to steal your tomorrow through your today. Are you feeling me?
For example, there are just too many people who are worrying and freaking out about tomorrow. Whereas the Bible said “take therefore no thought for tomorrow; for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” (Matthew 6:34) It means, if you don’t want to run your blood pressure up or get depressed needlessly, live today! Get in the game of life, call your play and play the game today!
Did you remember that in the Old Testament, when the people of Israel were set free from Egypt and they were on their way to the promise land, God fed them with Manna along the way. Interestingly, God only gave them enough food for each day only. Likewise, in the New Testament, when the Disciples asked Jesus Christ to teach them how to pray, the prayer emphasis was for “our daily bread.” In short, if you do something positive today, then you can change your tomorrow for the better.
Briefly, let me expose the devil by showing you how he works. Too many will often say that someday I will be healed, someday I will be happy, someday I will do better, someday I will go back to school, someday I will be free of drug, someday I will take care of myself, someday I will stop drinking, someday I will stop smoking, someday I will stop gambling, etc; The devil always want you and me to look down the road before we make a positive life choice. But think about it, why not today? Why not now? Please do not let the devil distract you from living today. Do not procrastinate or put off your joy. You can laugh today. You can smile today, and you can have a good day today. Do not let it take a heart attack, stroke or any other major illness for you to figure out that today is the best day of your life.
Even in my home, I have learned to enjoy the blessing of now and the truth about living today. I recalled when my children were little, every now and then I will hear them say to Mom and Dad that the dishes will be washed later or the trash will be put outside someday. Guess what, I learned to put my foot down and insisted that the dishes be washed today and not someday. That the trash be put outside today and not someday. Believe me, it worked pretty well for me. I got a lot accomplished because I did not allow my children to put off for tomorrow what they can do today. I have heard many people say someday, I am going to loose weight. Someday, I will start working out. Someday, I will get in shape. Someday, I will start eating right. Someday, I will start taking care of myself. Someday, I will change for the better. But again, I must ask, why not now? If it’s going to happen someday, why not release your faith for it today? The blunt truth is that, yesterday is like a cashed check, tomorrow is like a promissory note, but today is like cash in hand. So if I were you, I will do good deed today. If I were you, I will love and take care of my family today. If I were you, I will take care of my business today. If I were you, I will not put for someday what I can do today. Procrastination is an enemy of progress.
Faith in God is not a matter of someday. The Bible says “now faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) Faith is a matter of now! God said, “behold I will do a new thing now……..” (Isaiah 43:19). I believe that God can heal you now, He can deliver you now and He can bless you right now! Your greatest day is not behind you but it is right now. So, it’s time to laugh now. It’s time to smile now. It’s time to live now. Its time to enjoy life now!
